Fabrics & Notions
Bag Outer and Inner/Lining (Fabrics A and B)
Lightweight fabrics that have a fine weave and yet are strong are preferred to avoid the bag getting too bulky around the drawstring channel.
Linen, quilting cottons, Tana Lawn (interlined). Plain fabrics are easier to embroider.
(Tip: Beginners, quilting cottons are easy to work with for embroidering and machine sewing.)
Drawstring Cord
Cotton cord 3 to 5mm wide or herringbone tape 1/2cm to 1cm wide.
Embroidery
Tracing will be easier on lighter coloured finer fabrics. If dark, select a looser weave fabric (such as the linen used in this pattern). Sashiko thread can be used, Perle embroidery thread or 6 strand floss. Good quality brands that are colour fast.

Customise Your Bags
That wonderful organised feeling, finding your yarn and project easily – all your projects and kit beautifully labeled and stored.
Would you love to Sashiko but are hesitant? Use the tutorial above to give it a go and practice on a scrap of fabric. Any thread and any needle will be fine to practice with. The Sashiko designs on these patterns are hand drawn and naturally organic in form – so stitches that are a bit skew or different lengths actually look fantastic on the finished piece. It’s so relaxing once you get into the rhythm.
Sashiko pattern – embroider the design and any custom yarn craft words you wish
Simply add the word onto the pattern piece, trace onto the fabric, embroider and make the bag.
