Stitch like no one is watching
MAKE SURE THIS IS REALLY FOR YOU...
Modern sashiko, geometric designs – this is not us
We use a relaxed style of origin sashiko, organic forms with stitches of different lengths. The roots of sashiko are in practicality – reusing, reviving, reloving – without focussing on stitch sizes, forms, threads, fabrics – using what feels good to us in the moment. This is where we have returned to immerse ourselves in the Japanese wabi-sabi practice, appreciating natural and sometimes imperfect beauty of the moment as found in nature.
Formal stitching, with only modern methodology and techniques – this is not us
Our focus for stitching is to find our own creative rhythm and flow. To focus on the feeling when we stitch rather than being perfect. We will teach you methods that focus on simplicity, to allow you to find what feels good for you, and take your stitching wherever you want to go with it. Like a pianist, it’s good to learn the basics and then allow your creativity, style and emotion to find what feels uplifting to your soul. Einaudi, Lang Lang, Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Andrew Lloyd Webber, a little child playing chopsticks – there is no best, everyone is different – what draws us in is the emotion they put into it. Our focus is to stitch with heart.
Perfection – this is not us
Wonky stitches are a natural part of learning, we learn, we grow, we love the natural imperfections that come – no matter how experienced we never stop learning and getting into creative tangles from time to time. Embrace wherever you are an your creative journey.
What does this sewing chapter hold for you?
Turning to a fresh new page, what is your story and what will this new chapter hold. The last chapter of our lives is a speck in the rear view mirror – yet at times it can keep pulling us back, reliving in the hopes of changing outcomes. We cannot go back. If we are to live fully, we must look forward. Embracing the beautiful memories including them in making new memories.
What have you been dreaming for this moment. Your needle is threaded and ready to create. Emotion led sewing may be a dive into the unknown, leaving behind self critical perfectionism and embracing the moment. A different way of sewing that is so simple it allows our minds to get lost in the rhythmic motion of the stitching.
What is your story? What do you want to feel in this chapter? Life’s ebbs and flows can at times seem to control us, as challenging as it may feel, only we can decide what we will become. Sewing is not a miraculous cure, but creativity, working with our hands and giving all have a power for positive influence in our lives. As part of a greater change it can be a calming support, lighting a bright fire when the storm is raging.

Roots Sashiko Embroidery

origin Sashiko Embroidery
Our focus is relaxation, not rules or conforming to rigid thinking. Creativity is about childlike exploration of textures, materials, colours and getting lost in the moment. This is where we create our best work, without restrictions or constraints. Exploring using these techniques for creative garment stitching, home decor and giving sentimental gifts stitched with love.
It would be wonderful to share this with you.
