5. Air dry – and ta da!

BEGINNERS

Videos below to help you with the stick and stitch and also with embroidery how to guides.

WHAT CAN i SEW ON?

Almost anything fabric that you can get a needle through, and that can be submerged in lukewarm water at the end.  Natural fabrics are also easier to work with than synthetics.

For beginners – Starting with something easy like a tea towel, t-shirt, sweatshirt, tote bag, canvas pumps, cushion cover.  Something that is not too precious and that is easy to push the needle through, so you can really relax into the sewing.

Sewing help – If you need help with sewing there are videos at the bottom of this page to so you can get sewing, even absolute beginners.

can i use stick & stitch for mending?

Yes for visible decorative mending.  For both small holes and also for large damage, slightly different techniques.  There is a video below showing a denim jacket repair.

Bear in mind that the garment needs to be submerged in lukewarm water at the end.

What tools do i need?

  • NEEDLE – with a large eye (Crewel no 2 for 6 strands of embroidery floss)
  • THREAD – Embroidery floss 6 strands or less.  Medium Sashiko thread can be used, or anything you have at home
  • SCISSORS – Small and sharp
  • WATER –  to wash away the product when completed
  • HOOP Optional – Embroidery hoop can be useful for fabrics that are soft and are difficult to keep flat. A small hoop gives greater control, such as a 5″/12cm hoop.  Wood and bamboo hoops grip the fabric more securely than plastic.

SASHIKO STITCHING – CIRCLES

Sashiko stitch can be used on all design shapes – circular and straight.  For more information on the other patterns, see the other videos on the website.
